Visiting the City Centre safely

Cardiff Council has launched a phased plan to gradually reopen Cardiff as one of the safest cities in the UK.

Shoppers, workers and residents visiting Cardiff city centre will be greeted by a number of safeguarding measures as COVID-19 lockdown restrictions continue to lift.​

Closure of Castle Street and Mill Lane

To ensure the city centre is a safe and accessible place for all, Castle Street and Mill Lane have been closed to traffic.

Castle Quarter Café​

An undercover outdoor dining area set against the backdrop of Cardiff Castle has opened on Castle Street to allow for businesses to serve more customers.

Walking and queuing systems

To ke​ep you safe from COVID-19 we have introduced a simple walking system with friendly marshals who can help and advise you. Some shops have queuing systems in place to limit numbers inside.

​Pop-up cycleways

Cardiff - recently voted the UK's best cycling city - is installing pop-up cycleways.

The cycleways are planned to be installed by the autumn to provide safer, mostly-segregated routes for people to travel by bike on some of Cardiff's busiest roads.
