Community Safety Privacy Policy

    This privacy policy will explain how the Community Safety Team uses the personal data we collect from you when you participate in the Cardiff Community Safety Partnership.


The Community Safety Team is part of Cardiff Council, who is the Data Controller for the purposes of the data collected. All personal data is processed in accordance with the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018.

What data do we collect?

  • The Community Safety Team aims to collect the following data:
  • Crime data.
  • Anti-social behaviour.
  • Assault Related data.
  • Fire setting data.
  • Homeless, rough sleeping and supported living data.
  • Drug use and drug litter data.
  • Other illicit litter and graffiti.
  • Survey data.
  • Provision and asset data.
  • Education data - exclusions, truancy, incidents

 

This is collected for the purpose of supporting Community Safety Partners to minimize the impacts of Violence, Crime, and Anti-social behaviour to improve perceptions of safety in and around the Cardiff area.

 

How do we collect your data?

You directly provide the Community Safety Team with most of the data we collect. We collect data and process data when you:

  • Use or view our website via your browser's cookies.
  • Automatic reports (via shared access to dashboards, portals, databases, etc.)
  • Periodic reporting (via shared data exports, written updates, etc.)

 

The Community Safety Team may also receive your data indirectly from the following sources:

  • Other internal departments (such as Community engagement, Cardiff Research Centre, etc.)

 

How will we use your data?

The Community Safety Team collects your data so that we can:

  • Our activities are grounded in a solid legal framework. Specifically, the lawful basis for the involvement of public sector partners is the 'public task' principle as defined in Article 6(1)(e).
  • Furthermore, Section 115 of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 authorizes partners to exchange information crucial for curbing crime and disorder. Complementing this, Schedule 9(5) of the Police and Justice Act further solidifies our mandate by imposing a new duty on the relevant agencies to collaborate in these endeavors.
  • In processing your data, we adhere to the standards of data protection as required under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. Specifically, we ensure compliance with Article 9 of the GDPR.

How do we store your data?

The Community Safety Team securely stores your data on the Council's servers, and uses data minimization and retention policies in compliance with the UK's Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Sensitive data will; be regularly reviewed to ensure it is still necessary for the stated purpose, have clear data retention policies that are in line with legal requirements and best practices, be securely deleted or anonymized once it is no longer needed. The length of time in which your data will be stored by the Community Safety Team will therefore vary by its sensitivity and relevance.

What are your data protection rights?

The Community Safety Team would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:

  • The right to access – You have the right to request the Community Safety Team for copies of your personal data.
  • The right to rectification – You have the right to request that the Community Safety Team correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request Our Company to complete the information you believe is incomplete.
  • The right to erasure – You have the right to request that the Community Safety Team erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that the Community Safety Team restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to the Community Safety Team's processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
  • The right to data portability – You have the right to request that the Community Safety Team transfer the data that we have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions.
