Requesting CCTV footage

You can make a request for CCTV for a variety of reasons. This can be done by:

  • a member of the public,
  • the police, or
  • a company representing a member of the public. For example, insurance companies or solicitors.

How long we keep CCTV footage

We do not keep footage for longer than 31 days. The footage is automatically deleted once the 31 days have passed, unless we have received a formal request for the footage, or it is relevant to an ongoing investigation.

We do not own all CCTV cameras in Cardiff. We may not always have access to the footage.

What information you need to provide

We will not search for the footage unless the relevant documents have been provided.

You will also need to provide as much information as possible, such as:

  • the specific time and date,
  • the location, and
  • a description of yourself and the incident.

You have the right to ask for CCTV footage of yourself.  You can do this in writing or verbally. There may be circumstances where we cannot give you the footage. For example, if other individuals are identifiable in the footage.
