General Waste Bags and Bins

Your property will be using either red striped bags or a black wheelie bin to collect your general waste. Check if you use bags or bins by typing your postcode into the collection calendar.

Red striped waste bags are delivered to properties twice a year.

You will receive enough to put out up to 3 bags per fortnightly collection. You will not be able to buy these bags in shops.

Bag deliveries

Most properties in Cardiff will receive one delivery in early summer and one delivery in time for the Christmas season.

Properties in Cathays, Plasnewydd and Gabalfa will start their 6 monthly delivery cycle in line with the university academic calendar.

Area scope="col"Delivery 1Delivery 2
Cathays, Plasnewydd (Roath), GabalfaSeptemberMarch
Rest of the CityNovemberMay

If your property is accessed through a communal area and we cannot gain direct access to your door, we will not be able to leave any bags. We will contact you with details on how to receive your provision of general waste bags.

We cannot leave bags in communal areas, porches nor on pavements outside properties for risk of being taken by passers-by.

New properties

If you have just moved into a property and do not have any red striped waste bags, you will need to supply proof of new residency before your supply of bags are issued.

Proof of residency includes:

  • tenancy agreement
  • property completion letter
  • initial utility statement

Please email your proof of new residency to wastemanagement@cardiff.gov.uk.

You can also post a copy to Waste Management, Lamby Way Recycling Centre, Rumney, CF3 2HP.

Please note we are unable to return original documents, so please send copies only.

Extra bags

If you cannot fit your non-recyclable waste into your general waste bags you may qualify for extra bags.

These are only provided in exceptional circumstances where you regularly have additional waste that cannot be recycled. This should be out of your control, for example due to medical packaging.

You will need to prove that you make full use of our weekly recycling and food waste service before you qualify for extra bags.

If you would like to organise an additional bag assessment, please contact C2C on 029 2087 2087.

If your family has lots of nappy waste or incontinence pads, you are able to apply for a hygiene waste collection.

New properties

If you have moved into a new property and need a new bin, or if you need to replace a lost or stolen bin, you can order over the phone via C2C on 029 2087 2087. Each new bin will cost £25.
