Riverside South Parking Zone Consultation

We are proposing a highways improvement scheme and would like to hear from you.

Scheme Ref: CPZ/E

Type of scheme: Parking

Ward: Riverside

This consultation is now closed.

  • Claire Gardens
  • Claire Place
  • De Burgh Place
  • De Burgh Street
  • Gloucester Street
  • Heath Street
  • Machen Place
  • Mandeville Place
  • Mandeville Street
  • Tudor Street (between Claire Street and Ninian Park Road)
  • Wyndham Street (east of its blocked end)

Any roads only accessible from the above.

We are currently proposing to introduce a parking zone in the Riverside area (south of Cowbridge Road East).

A parking zone is an area where all on-street parking is controlled by parking bays where parking is safe, or yellow lines where parking is dangerous or obstructive.

This helps:

  • free up more parking space for residents and their visitors,
  • improve safety,
  • prevent commuter parking, and
  • encourage walking, cycling and public transport use.

Parking within the zone will be controlled mainly by either permit parking or limited waiting.

Permit Holder Only parking will apply all day, everyday. This is so that some road space is always reserved for residents. To provide residents with more flexibility to self-manage their parking, permit holders will be able to park on their street or on the nearest available street within the zone.

Permits will be issued in accordance with current policy. Properties with access to off-street car parks associated with that property/building, or properties converted after 2011 will not be eligible for permits.

Limited Waiting parking will apply 7am to 8pm daily. Permit holders will be able to park in the limited waiting parking without the time limits applying when clearly displaying a valid permit.

Any existing permit or limited waiting parking will be amended so that they apply the same as above.

Some yellow lines will also be introduced where necessary to prevent obstructive or dangerous parking.

To deter commuter use, any existing pay and display parking will become short stay (5 hours max stay).

No changes will be made to any parking charges or tariffs, or any disabled parking bays.

Have your say

This consultation is now closed.

Following the feedback we received the decision has been taken to proceed with the scheme.

However, we proposed that the parking zone would apply between 7am and 8pm. After considering the feedback we received we will be changing this so that the parking zone will apply between 8am to 10pm.

We will now start the Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) process. As part of this you will be able to view detailed parking designs and formally object to the scheme should you wish to do so.

The making of a TRO is a lengthy process and can take between 6 to 9 months to complete.
