Carer permits

Carer permits allow carers to use resident permit parking areas near the home of the person they care for.

You can apply for a free carer permit if you are:

  • a professional carer employed in the care sector
  • a non-professional carer receiving Carer’s Allowance or Carer’s Credit

It’s the carer who must apply for a permit, not the resident.

Carer permits are digital and linked to your vehicle registration so you do not need to display anything.

Apply for a Carer Permit

Create an account on MiPermit system to apply for a digital permit. You can either:

You will need to include your full name and proof of:

  • your employment, if you are a professional carer
  • your Carer’s Allowance or Carer’s Credit, if you’re a non-professional carer
  • how the vehicle is linked to you, for example a V5C or insurance document

You will receive a confirmation email once we verify your account. You can then register your vehicle and the street where you need to park through the MiPermit app.

Permits are valid for up to 24 hours, and you can apply for more than one permit at one time.
