If you are not successful in resolving your dispute, you can
try contacting a mediation service for assistance.External link opens in a new windowWe can deal with your complaint if:
- You have reasonably attempted all other ways to resolve the dispute before contacting us.
- You can demonstrate you have contacted the hedge owner or person living at the property in writing and that there is a record to this effect.
- You have informed the hedge owner or person living at the property of your intention to complain to the council.
To make a complaint the hedge must be:
- On another residential land owner’s property.
- Made up of a line of two or more trees or shrubs.
- Mostly evergreen or semi-evergreen.
- Over 2 metres high from ground level.
- Acting as a barrier to light or access.

If you decide to raise a formal complaint you will need to pay a fee of £330.
