Cold-calling

Cold callers are classed as people who knock on your door, without warning, offering goods and/or services.  You may, for example, get visits from double glazing firms, doorstep loans and other salesmen.

In an attempt to control this we have set up Cold Calling Control Zones (CCCZ) where all cold calling is strictly controlled.

Cold calling isn't illegal and there is nothing wrong with companies doing it.  However, in a control zone businesses are asked to respect the wishes of the residents and not knock on your door at all.

The CCCZ does not stop every single organisation from knocking at your door. For example religious groups such as the Jehovah's Witnesses are allowed to knock on your door, as they are not offering to provide goods or services for a fee. Similarly, charities can also knock on your door as they are also not offering goods or services.

If you would like more information or would like to report someone cold calling in a CCCZ please contact usExternal link opens in a new window.

If you feel a cold caller has illegally pressured you into buying something or signing up for something this may be classed as a doorstep crimeExternal link opens in a new window.
