The Local Government Elections are happening on 5 May 2022.

They are held to elect people from your local community to become Councillors.

It is important to vote at Local Government Elections, as Councillors and Councils are responsible for providing local services and facilities. 

If you haven’t already, you will need to register to vote​ by midnight on Thursday 14 April 2022.



If you are registered, you will receive your Poll Card between Friday 18 and Sunday 27 March 2022.​

  1. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer no later than 4pm on Tuesday 5 April 2022.
  2. Nomination papers may be delivered to the Returning Officer at Room 263, County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff CF10 4UW between 9am and 4pm on any working day from the date of publication of this notice (excluding bank holidays) or electronically as per the arrangements set out in the electronic delivery statement below. 
  3. Nomination papers may be obtained from the Returning Officer either at the offices of the council for Cardiff Council or electronically via elections@cardiff.gov.uk
  4. If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday 5 May 2022.
  5. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 12 midnight on Thursday 14 April 2022. Applications can be made online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote​​​​​​​​​​​External link opens in a new window
  6. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Room 263, County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW by 5 pm on Tuesday 19 April 2022.
  7. Applications to vote by proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Room 263, County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW by 5pm on Tuesday 26 April 2022. 
  8. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Room 263, County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW by 5pm on Thursday 5 May 2022.
