Work experience

The Work experience scheme is an unpaid placement designed to give citizens real-world work experience at the largest local authority in Wales.

You do not need to live in Cardiff but must be over 14 to apply for a placement with us.

From college and University students to people who want a career change, our goal is to create fair, open and inclusive opportunities to all regardless of age, sex, gender, religion, disability, or any other personal circumstances.

This is an unpaid work experience placement. You will need to cover your own expenses.

Some placements are remote, and you need a device connected to the internet.

We do our best to try and provide a placement that meets your personal needs and aspirations.

On your placement with us, you can expect to develop:

  • skills, knowledge and confidence, and
  • experience in your field of interest.

The placement may also support other areas of your life, such as your studies and career goals.

You will also get a better understanding of the city you live in, and how your council and its services work.
