Paying your rent

Your tenancy is a weekly tenancy and runs each week from Monday to Sunday. Rent becomes due on the Monday of each week or part week that you occupy your home.

How much rent do I pay?

Your tenancy agreement will confirm the amount of rent due each Monday for your property. You may want to make a claim for Housing Benefit which could reduce the amount of rent you have to pay.

Pay your rent online

Use our secure online payment system to pay your rent online.

Please make sure you have your account number to hand. This is an 8 digit number followed by a letter.

Swipe card

A swipe card will be sent to you when your tenancy starts. It can take up to 10 working days to arrive.  You can use your swipe card to pay rent at Post Offices.  If you choose this payment method you will need to pay by Wednesday morning for the payment to reach your rent account in time.

You can also use your swipe card to pay at paypoint outletsExternal link opens in a new window in shops and garages. However, these payments can take up to two weeks to reach your rent account.

By telephone

Automated Payment System - please ring 029 2044 5900. You will need your account number. Payment can be made with debit or credit card.

Cheques can be sent to Cardiff County Council Finance Team, PO Box 6000, Cardiff, CF11 0WZ. Please ensure that the rent account number is written on the back of the cheque. Please do not send cash.

Former Tenant Rent Arrears

If you moved out without paying the rent that was due, this is known as former tenant arrears. If you have unpaid rent, you must pay this back even if you no longer live at the property.
